Sarasota is a city in Sarasota County located on the central west coast of Florida. The city's official limits include Sarasota Bay, along with several barrier islands between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
The city is known for its world-renowned beaches and islands, which are called keys, and they include Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Longboat Key. These areas are noted worldwide for the quality of their beaches. The city began to obtain a liberal reputation as a haven for artists in the early 1920s. The city has also been very progressive in the past eight years, and bought millions of dollars of land to preserve for future generations.
The city has also taken a strong environmental stance, as it created Green buildings, banned summer fertilizing, replaced thousands of septic tanks that used to dump raw sewage and effluent into the intra-coastal, worked to open Midnight Pass and tackled many other quality of life
concerns.
Sarasota's Cost Of Living Index Is At Par With Other Great Cities
Based on the national average, the city's quality of living index is at par with the best cities in the US. The cost of living is pegged at 109, and 105 unemployment rate as compared to 4% for the continental US.
