Gourmands will not be disappointed either; Scottsdale proper boasts seven five-star restaurants, six of which feature cuisine inspired by local Southwestern traditions that include Spanish, Mexican and local Indian cultural influences (almost nowhere else will the discriminating diner have the opportunity to sample unusual dishes such as sugar-and-chile cured duck, salad made from the nopales cactus, or a chocolate tamale. The seventh is a Japanese establishment recently rated as an absolute cant miss and one of the best dining experiences in city by patrons.
Speaking of culture, those coming to Scottsdale will find an abundance of art galleries in the citys famed Art District. Shopkeepers located in the Old Town area offer a wide variety of Western, Hispanic and Native American arts and crafts. Every Thursday between 7 and 9 in the evening, the community hosts the Scottsdale ArtWalk, a local tradition now in its 30th year. Every week, members of the Scottsdale Gallery Association host special, unique exhibits throughout the Art District.
